How do I find my Passion?

How do I find my passion?

Women are always asking me, “how do I find my passion in life?”

Remember when you were a child? You just did things, without questioning, “is this meaningful, is it a waste of my time, will this lead to a happy future, is there something else I should be doing?” You built sandcastles and played tag and asked silly questions and looked for bugs, because you enjoyed doing those things. Nobody told you to do them, you just did them. You were led by your curiosity and excitement.

And if you hated doing something, you just stopped doing it. There was no guilt involved. There was no arguing with yourself. You just knew you didn’t want to do it.

So many women tell me that they don’t know what to do with their life. They are seeking their passion but don’t know how to find it. And you know what, neither do I.  Everyone hopes I have a crystal ball, but I’m not a fortune teller. I’m just an ordinary woman who has tried lots of things and not given up. Some I’ve enjoyed and some I’ve not enjoyed. If you are spending time searching for your passion, you’re missing the point.

Life is about not knowing and doing something anyway.

The problem is not a lack of passion for something. The problem is productivity. The problem is perception. The problem is acceptance. The problem is priorities.

The problem is when we expect to love every minute doing one thing and expect to earn a huge amount of money from it. The problem is when we make excuses not to do that thing, or even try.

The truth is, no matter what you’re doing, there will be days you love it and days you don’t.  Parts of it you will enjoy and parts you won’t.  There will be bits you are naturally  good at and bits you struggle with. That’s just the nature of everyday life.

The main issue with finding your passion, comes down to expectation and effort. One woman has been telling me for years that she wants to become a Coach but has done very little about it. Yet when given a paintbrush and canvas she loses herself in the pure joy of creation for hours.  That’s her passion, she’s an artist!

But then a few days later she’s back to complaining, “I just don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing with my life.”  She had found her passion but is ignoring it because she’s afraid of failure.

And that’s what I help her with – overcoming her limiting beliefs and fears. Setting up a plan and achieving her goals and now she paints every day (and sells her artwork!)

What are you passionate about? What holds you back from giving it a go? Share with me, I’d love to hear from you.
