Why am I writing 7 Steps to Remaining Hopeful During Uncertain Times? Because we are in lockdown again!
Whether we like it or not, change outside of our control teaches us the most about ourselves and how we deal with life in general. The ability to stay hopeful during these tough times is not easy, but it is possible. Like communication, it’s a skill that can be learned and developed.
If you are struggling at the moment, here are a few tips to help you remain hopeful, reset your mindset and stay positive.
- Accept the challenge for what it is
Acknowledge your struggle. By highlighting the problem, you can start to deal with it and find solutions. If everything you try doesn’t work, then maybe it’s time for acceptance. I don’t mean giving in or giving up, but instead finding inner peace rather than wasting time and energy fighting it.
- Ask yourself what you can learn from this experience
Seeing challenges as an opportunity for growth, completely changes our mental and emotional approach. By seeking out the lessons to be learned, we can calmly face the problem, discover what can be done about the situation and then move on.
- Revisit the past
Hope springs up from the knowledge that you’ve gotten through tough times like this before. Remind yourself that challenges don’t last forever and you can remain hopeful during uncertain times.
- Record the experience
Blogging, journaling, or recording what’s going on can help you process the experience and open up new creative solutions. When we get problems out of our head and onto paper, we are more able to deal with them logically, rather than emotionally. Looking back at what you recorded offers a powerful experience of your progress, and with it, new found hope.
Even if you don’t feel like it! The act of laughing changes your mood. Hopelessness doesn’t stand a chance against a good belly laugh. The fun thing about laughter is, once you start, it’s hard to stop. It will lighten your mood, (uplift those around you) and help you see solutions that weren’t there before.
- Choose Happiness
Much of our life can be spent performing things we ‘should’ do. In this case, ask yourself if doing the ‘right thing’ means doing the thing that’s best for you? As long as it won’t hurt others, make the choice that will create happiness in your life. Choice definitely helps when it comes to remaining hopeful during uncertain times.
- Join a support group.
Trying to manage tough times alone is a sure recipe for fostering hopelessness. Gather people around you who make you feel hopeful just by being with them. By spending time with positive people, their hopefulness will quickly become your own.
