At the beginning of every year, I choose ONE WORD, a guiding word. A word that encapsulates what I want to achieve and enjoy during the year ahead.

A guiding word helps you stay focused, especially if you’re someone who gets overwhelmed with setting too many New Year goals.

 

A few years’ ago, I wanted to feel more empowered about how I lived my life, the choices I made and in speaking up about topics that were important to me.

Last year my focus was all about growth: emotional maturity, mental strength and the growth of my coaching practise.

 

My business soared my personal wellbeing declined.  I had little time for myself.  I spent hours every day sitting at my desk talking on zoom. Each evening I’d collapse in front of the TV with a glass (maybe more) of wine and some chocolate, ignoring the extra Covid kilos that hung around my middle. I felt yuk and completely out of balance!

So, I’m ready this year to focus on having more fun. That’s my F word for the year: Fun. (I could use a different F word to describe last year, but I won’t ha!) Part of this fun will be enjoying more time with friends, eating healthy food and making time for my fitness routine. (You will never find time, you have to set aside time for priorities).

What about you? Do you feel out of balance?

If so, now is a great time to stop and listen to your intuition and do something about it. Do this for yourself, not because others are telling you. Find what’s missing in your life/work and give yourself that gift because no one else can do it for you. 

I’ve had more fun in the past few weeks than most of last year because that’s what I’m focusing on and we know that we get what we focus on.

 

A word of caution, if you are focusing on what you can’t do, have or be then you will get more of that!  So, keep negative words to a minimum.  Be aware of the words you choose when talking to yourself. Avoid words like can’t, struggle, blame, quit.

This quote from The Huffington Post says it all.

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.”
